Jean-Michel Mabeko-Tali (Howard University)

Jean-Michel Mabeko-Tali was born and raised in the Republic of the Congo. He holds a PhD. in History from the University Paris VII-Denis Diderot, and MA in History and African Studies from the University of Bordeaux III, France. He lived and taught history for many years in Angola, and has been Full Professor of African History at Howard University, in Washington, DC, USA, since 2002. From 2009 to 2018, he was member of UNESCO International Scientific Committee for the Pedagogical Use of General History of Africa, and contributor of the IX volume of General História of Africa. Essayist, specialist of Angolan and Congolese Social and Political modern History, Jean-Michel Mabeko-Tali is Author of numerous publications, between essays, articles and books contributions. He is also author of two novels edited in France. Professor Mabeko-Tali has been guest lecturer and researcher in many foreign universities, in Africa, Europe, and South America.

Marissa J. Moorman (University of Wisconsin-Madison)

Marissa J. Moorman is Professor of African Cultural Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She holds a PhD in African History (2004) from the University of Minnesota and is the author of Intonations: a Social History of Music and Nation Luanda, Angola, 1945 to Recent Times, Ohio University Press, 2008, Powerful Frequencies: Radio, State Power, and the Cold War in Angola, 1931-2002, Ohio University Press, 2019 and Sons da Nação História Política e Social da Música Urbana de Luanda, 1945-2002, Mercado de Letras, 2023. The author, in addition to various publications on music, media, fashion, cinema, radio and urban space, is the director of the Center of African Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and editor of the academic journal The Journal of African History, Cambridge University Press; she was on the editorial board of the Africa is a Country blog from 2014-2024; and is a member of the Radical History Review editorial collective.  

Teresa Cruz e Silva (Universidade Eduardo Mondlane)

Teresa Cruz e Silva is Mozambican. She holds a PhD in Social History, a post-graduation in Development Studies, and graduate studies in History. Currently she is a retired Full Professor from Eduardo Mondlane University, although active in a part-time basis at the African Studies Centre and Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences in the same university,, which she has served in several other capacities, since 1976. Member for life of CODESRIA- Council for Development of Social Sciences in Africa, who served as a member of the executive committee and President, Teresa also belongs to the Lisbon Academy of Sciences. Her research interests are: Contemporary Social History in Mozambique and Southern Africa; liberation movements and nationalism in Mozambique; social networks, religion and society; youth and social identities, human rights, women and extractive industry. She is a member of different editorial and scientific councils of national and international journals.
